MAAI MAHIU

The community we work in is a small, truckstop town in the beautiful Rift Valley of Kenya. The poverty and hopelessness found in the town are a sharp contrast to the beauty of the thriving landscape that surrounds it. Maai Mahiu is located along the Trans-African highway that connects Mombasa, one of the largest seaports of Africa, to other in-land countries of the continent. The highway stretches all the way to West Africa and the northern side of Egypt. It is known as the "HIV Highway" traveling through the "AIDS Belt" of Africa. This truckstop environment cultivates a hotbed for drugs and prostitution that devastates the lives of the most vulnerable: the women and children.

"All you need to do is to walk in the town of Maai Mahiu one evening and you will understand why the town desperately needs the heart-healing power of God. People are searching for a major rescue from the bondage of sin, a hand that could hold them and help them up, bringing into light the reason God created them in the first place. "

Gospel CENTERED CARE

The gospel of Jesus Christ is our foundation and drives everything we do. We strive to demonstrate the love of Jesus in how we holistically care for the women in our program. Our women attend Rift Valley Hope worship services, trauma counseling and bible classes. We are about transforming lives all for the glory of God.

EMPOWERMENT

We are committed to providing a fair and reliable wage that will enable women to provide for their family and save for their future. Our women only need to bring a willing heart. We provide all the raw materials, equipment and training required to make our products.

community

Our workshop is an environment of togetherness and joy – a place where women feel safe, known, and loved.

OUR WOMEN

OUR TUMAINI WEAVERS are beautiful and talented women whose lives and unique stories are being RESTORED and REDEEMED by JESUS CHRIST.

Our weavers are SURVIVORS.  Some have experienced the 2007 post election violence where family members were killed and homes were burned.  They were relocated to an open field outside of Maai Mahiu and left with nothing. Others have experienced unimaginable abuse at the hand of a violent husband or intruder.  Many, in their desperation and lack of options, have turned to harmful and destructive means to provide for their families.  Most are single mothers with no support.

We are training and equipping these women in their craft so they can provide for themselves and their families in HEALTHY, LIFE-GIVING ways. Together, with the spiritual and counseling care provided by Rift Valley Hope, HOPE is given; Lives are RESTORED. Brokenness is REDEEMED.

ALL for HIS GLORY.
